TOWNSVILLE, AUSTRALIA - MARCH 09: Sione Katoa of the Sharks comes from the field after being injured during the round one NRL match between the North Queensland Cowboys and the Cronulla Sharks at 1300SMILES Stadium on March 9, 2018 in Townsville, Australia. (Photo by Ian Hitchcock/Getty Images)

The Cronulla Sharks lost their Round 1 match against the Cowboys last night but the bigger concern is the injury suffered by young winger Sione Katoa.

Katoa suffered a facial injury after Cowboys player Javid Bowen landed heavily on his head while being tackled.

Katoa was taken straight to the hospital upon leaving the field and early reports suggest he might have a broken jaw.

Scans will be needed to confirm the extent of the injury.

  1. Watched him play, he was damn quick and illusive, and very dangerous close to the line. Looks to be a potential top try scorer. Hope he makes a recovery soon for the Sharks sake…
