Melbourne Storm hooker Harry Grant has become one of the league's biggest players intending to test the open market on November 1st.
The Australian representative is signed to Melbourne until the end of 2028; however, a contract clause could make him a free agent in 2027 if activated.
With Grant's experience, he is a catch for rival clubs if they can secure his services.
Grant has not ruled out staying at the Storm, but if the club cannot match the bids of those wanting Grant, he might be leaving the Melbourne-based side.
A move to the Perth Bears has been formally ruled out, with Grant not wishing to stand in the way of former teammate Tyran Wishart, who has signed a multi-year contract with the NRL's newest club.
1. Newcastle Knights
The leading club in the race to sign Grant, the Knights have already been linked with makling a play for Grant.
Grant has been strongly linked to the Knights and has confirmed he is open to the switch that will see him link up with Queensland teammate Kalyn Ponga and form an exciting spine combination with Fletcher Sharpe and Dylan Brown.
The signing of Grant will most likely see Phoenix Crossland head to the lock position, where he has been rumoured to go.
Newcastle have ten players off-contract in 2027 that will free up salary cap space for Grant and allow them to bid the type of money he deserves.
If off-contract players Bradman Best and Jacob Saifiti find new homes, Grant will be the first to receive offers from the Hunter.
