Melbourne Storm hooker Harry Grant has become one of the league's biggest players intending to test the open market on November 1st.
The Australian representative is signed to Melbourne until the end of 2028; however, a contract clause could make him a free agent in 2027 if activated.
With Grant's experience, he is a catch for rival clubs if they can secure his services.
Grant has not ruled out staying at the Storm, but if the club cannot match the bids of those wanting Grant, he might be leaving the Melbourne-based side.
A move to the Perth Bears has been formally ruled out, with Grant not wishing to stand in the way of former teammate Tyran Wishart, who has signed a multi-year contract with the NRL's newest club.
2. 2. Wests Tigers
A return to the Wests Tigers is on the cards for Grant, with hooker Apisai Koroisau off-contract in 2028. Koroisau will be reaching the end of his career by that time, and with the recent two-year signing of Jayden Brailey, Grant could be going back to the club where he earned himself Rookie of the Year in 2020 and began his origin representation.
The Tigers do not have many standout options for hooker outside Koroisau and Brailey, and the Tigers are one of the youngest clubs in the competition, with youngsters across the park for them.
Latu Fainu is one young gun who plays in the halves but can also play at hooker. He could be an option to replace Koroisau if he is to retire following his contract's end.
If the Tigers wish to progress the club following their poor form in recent years, Grant will be a signing they need to look at. They need to keep Fainu in the halves, given the injury woes the Tigers have succumbed to through their spine.
