The Queensland Maroons camp has been rocked by the news Patrick Carrigan will miss Game 2 of the State of Origin series with an ankle injury sustained playing for the Brisbane Broncos on Sunday afternoon.

The shock loss for the Broncos, which was the first win of the year for the St George Illawarra Dragons, will leave plenty of question marks surrounding that club, but more immediately, Billy Slater will need to pick a replacement.

There are as many as six players he could lean on, with some requiring a slight strategy tweak for Carrigan's bench spot.

Here are the options.

1. Kulikefu Finefeuiaki

We get the feeling the most likely option Billy Slater could turn to is already sitting within Queensland's squad.

Finefeuiaki was in contention for Game 1 before surprisingly missing selection, and Carrigan's injury could now open the door for the 22-year-old to make his State of Origin debut.

A reshuffle involving Reuben Cotter could make the move possible.

After spending time in the second row during Game 1, Cotter could shift back into the middle rotation, either as a starting prop or after starting on the edge, where he has built much of his representative career.

That would allow Finefeuiaki to slot into the back row without significantly disrupting the balance of Queensland's forward pack, while rewarding a player who was already knocking on the door of Origin selection.
