The Manly Sea Eagles are fighting to hold on to the Trbojevic brothers after salary cap sanctions force them into back-ended contracts.

The NRL fined the Sea Eagles $750,000, suspended two officials and deducted $660,000 from their salary cap over two season (2018-19) following breaches over the span of five years.

Manly fullback Tom Trbojevic has voiced his concerns regarding back-ended contracts that are being offered to him and brother Jake Trbojevic, stating he does not want his next contract to hurt the Sea Eagles down the line.

“I guess you want to steer clear of them (back-ended contracts). They can put teams under a lot of pressure,” Trbojevic told NRL.com.

“I’ve still got a long time left here.

“I really enjoy playing at this club. I hadn’t expected the (contract) talk to come on this early.

“We’ve got the rest of this year and another year at this club. Hopefully we’ll be able to extend that further.”

Whilst the Trbojevic brothers are contracted until the end of 2020, clubs are able and free to negotiate with the duo from the 1st of November.

With the Sea Eagles already signing captain Dale Cherry-Evans on a big-money deal, signing both the Trbojevic brothers could place a great deal of pressure on the club’s salary cap.

  1. How has this article been re wrote 4 times in the last 7 days when it’s not a story to start.
They can’t be approached by other clubs, they are aware they could get more at a team like dogs, or titans or somewhere, but they want to be at manly and actually win something, going to those other clubs out their careers back 3/4 years. They will take less to stay where they are just like the Stewart’s and co did previously.
And yes we know dce hasn’t taken less but that’s done now, trobovics and the other young ones coming through will as to stay together.

  2. Your probably right frank, but I don’t think it matters they won’t leave, and I’d doubt rabbits could afford them, Roberts too most of Inglis money, Sutton and Johnson combined wouldn’t be on enough to get 1 brother

  3. Bobfulton why even bother answering that idiot frank, don’t lower yourself to that level, i hope Manly keep the brothers cause they are juniors and i believe they will stay no matter what is thrown at em, but can’t help thinking Dessie up to his old tricks again , didn’t turn out too good at the dogs doing this.

  4. They’ll never leave Manly. I could see them both taking less money to stay there.
However, if for some reason they decided to leave tough luck . Lots of other clubs produce many good players who leave there junior clubs all the time.
