Michael Maguire is set to become Wests Tigers coach after agreeing a three-year deal worth $2.5 million.

Maguire will replace Ivan Cleary who has agreed to return to Penrith in 2021.

Wests Tigers have been on a search for a replacement for Cleary and have eyed both Maguire and Wayne Bennett.

The Tigers view Bennett as a short term fix, while Maguire is deemed a long-term appointment.

The Tigers will now turn their attention to resolving the Cleary situation.

The club are ready to release Cleary from his contract once they receive compensation from the Panthers.

Cameron Ciraldo was named caretaker coach of the Panthers after they sacked Anthony Griffin and will remain in the role until the situation is resolved.
