Broncos star David Fifta was forced to pay $30,000 to secure his freedom from a Bali jail, according to The Herald.
It usually costs an arrested civilian $10,000 to walk free in the Balinese legal system, but Fifita was forced to cough three times that amount.
The 19-year old spent three days behind bars after he allegedly assaulted nightclub security guard Dani Irawan in the early hours of Saturday morning.
His release was delayed to Monday morning as Bali police tried to broker a bigger fee.
"There has been a lot going on behind the scenes and I am really grateful for that," Fifita said on arrival in Brisbane. "It's a great feeling to be home to see my family.
"I've learned a big lesson from what I've been through these last few days."
It is believed that Fifta endured tough conditions during his time in custody and had to urinate in a bottle.
Broncos CEO Paul White told the media on Tuesday morning: Any compensation that was paid was agreed upon by David’s legal representative - David’s lawyer over there - and David himself."
White added that Fifita's version of events of what transpired would differ from what was being reported in the media.
"I guess the story of what has played out in the media over the last few days - David will have a different version of events to that which has played out in public," he said.
"We look forward to the NRL actually investigating David’s version of events and what happened over there.
"I know, having a policing background, that being in a cell is not a great experience, and being in one in a foreign country was pretty confronting."

This incident has all the makings of a beat up. That guard didn’t look to have a scratch on him considering a bloke of Fifta’s size is supposed to have lamped him one. After all the media attention over Solomona a few weeks ago at the same night club, I have to ask myself if this guard wasn’t just out to make himself a dollar when he spotted Fifta.
“Oops my chin just hit your fist, give me $30k please”
Broncos will pay the 30k.
