The Canberra Raiders are set to provide second-rower Hudson Young a week to tour the PNG Chiefs facilities as the possibility of him becoming a foundation player builds.

Young has been offered multiple contracts by the Raiders in recent times, with the latest offer hitting a staggering $1.1 million per year.

One of the best second-rowers in the game, the Raiders are understandably desperate to get Young locked away before the calendar rolls to November 1, but as yet, have been unable to do a deal.

Young has been circled by the PNG Chiefs, and it's clear with the latest knock back of what would have been a record-breaking deal for the green machine, that he is at least semi-interested in understanding his options on November 1.

The Sydney Morning Herald are now reporting that Young, who is currently out with an achilles injury, will be allowed to tour the facilities in Port Moresby potentially as soon as next week as he works to gain stability back into his achilles first.

It's the first sign that the Raiders are nervous of their ability to retain Young, and will be hoping the visit doesn't go as planned.

Canberra are not the first club to give a player mid-season permission to tour Port Moresby, with the Chiefs already having six signatures.

Alex Johnston had a clause in his deal that allowed him to negotiate, Matty Lees is in the Super League with an NRL clause, and Brian To'o never toured, but the other three signings in Jarome Luai, Connor Watson and Zac Lomax have all made their way to PNG.

The six signings on the board were followed by number seven on Monday morning, with Joseph Manu also confirming he will make the switch.

It's understood the Chiefs are also working through the potential of a deal for Gold Coast Titans fullback AJ Brimson, however, will need to land some forwards for their first season, of which Young is now a marquee target.

It's unclear if the Chiefs have permission to negotiate with Young, or only for him to visit facilities, but it does appear the Raiders are planning to have a decision on Young's future before November 1 one way or another, allowing them to plan things out far better once the deadline does roll around.
