South Sydney Rabbitohs utility Jamie Humphreys can officially represent England in the Rugby League World Cup following his eligibility application being approved.
International Rugby League confirmed with Zero Tackle Humphreys has been approved to represent England, with NRL.com initially revealing the versatile playmaker has been given the green light to take part in Brian McDermott's side for his upcoming World Cup campaign in October.
The Rabbitohs' acquisition has added further firepower to the English outfit lined with star-studded NRL talent.
McDermott named a 38-man squad in June, featuring the likes of Max King, Billy Smith, Jayden Brailey and Ben Talty, who are all in line to feature for their international debuts.
While Herbie Farnworth, Morgan Knowles, Victor Radley, AJ Brimson, Dominic Young, Kai Pearce-Paul and Morgan Smithies are likely to return to round out a strong nucleus of NRL-represented talent.
Humphreys gives the nation plenty of attacking options if he is picked for the 23-man squad to tour Australia, and can slot in at either five-eighth, halfback, hooker, or as a super sub utility given his powerful frame.
In a slim 36 appearances in his NRL career, Humphreys has shown plenty of promise of becoming a long-term player in the competition, with a composed kicking game and elite pass selection.
The 24-year-old made his NRL debut with the Manly Sea Eagles in 2024, playing one match for the club and scoring his first NRL try in one of his first touches of the ball in first grade.
He then made the switch to South Sydney in 2025, featuring heavily off the interchange bench showcasing his versatility in the spine.
Humphreys recently spoke with NRL.com about his desire to represent his heritage in the English colours, where he broke the news he can now take part in the England line-up.
“I've been going through the process and I am now eligible to play for England if they want me,” Humphreys told NRL.com.
“If I was lucky enough to get picked I'd be super-excited to get to represent where I lived for such a long time, especially coming from London.
"It's not that big a rugby league town in England, hopefully if I get to represent all those kids who love league but are living in London.
“It will show them there's a pathway to make it in this sport. I know a few of them might think the NRL is too far away and too big a dream but it's not and it doesn't have to be.
“Put in the work and see where that can take you.”
George Williams, Jake Connor, and Harry Smith will all be putting their hands up for the halves positions, making Humphreys a likely super-sub for October.
England kick off their international campaign against Tonga in Perth on October 17.
