The Brisbane Broncos have handed prop Payne Haas a four-game suspension and $20,000 fine.

Details surrounding the 19-year old's penalty are currently being investigated by the NRL for an incident involving Haas' family where the details have not been disclosed.

Broncos CEO Paul White said Haas had not committed any act of violence or breached the law and the matter was not being investigated externally.

“But Payne’s level of cooperation with the investigation by the NRL Integrity Unit fell short of the expectations and the standards set by our club,” White told the club website.

“We have a duty to protect the reputation of our club and our game – and we have a duty to our players – which requires us to hold them accountable for their decisions, and we are doing that today.

“Payne will miss the opening rounds of the competition and that is a heavy price to pay, as well as receiving a substantial fine.

“But we see this as a mistake made by young man and we are confident that Payne will learn his lesson.

“We hope this sends a strong message that the values and conduct of everyone at the Brisbane Broncos is of the utmost importance to club.”

  1. Got a salary cap discrepancy? Nah was here bra, in this bag eh
Player attacked a woman in a nightclub? Never happened mate
2 incidents occur regarding a player? Nah, we’re keeping it to ourselves.
Nobody quite handles their own back yard like the Broncos.. 🙂

  2. I don’t want to jump on the bandwagon and be a Bennet Basher… But I do really wonder if this would have been swept under the rug if Wayne was still at the club. Maybe with Siebold it won’t be tolerated?

  3. Doesn’t pass the smell test at all.
Why would the Broncos even publish this. Any other club would just say he’s not fit to play yet if they wanted it kept in house. Guess they think it will come out later but are hoping it wont.

  4. I think this young, big pack will be a real challenge for Seibold. I can see discipline issues on and off the field. I think that is why the Broncos have come down hard on Haas to set an example for the others.

  5. I have heard from a good source that Haas’s family members acted like idiots at a local sporting event. Haas was not involved in any acts of violence himself. Members of the public made a complaint after a member of the Haas clan, reportedly his brother, was fighting and swearing a officials. When the integrity unit asked Haas about this he apparently refused to dog on his family and would not answer questions. The suspension and fine is not for his actions but rather not co-operating with the integrity unit.

IF this is true and it is a big IF, I think Brisbane’s response to this incident is professional and measured. I think Seibold is keen to pass his first big test and stamp some standards on the club’s expectations.

  6. Look I had family members at the game this has come from. And man haas brothers r abit out of control and have acted up a handful of times, unfortunately haas has copped it. I think 4 weeks is abit hard on him.

Did they drop Andrew johns when matty so called gang
R,pp,d that girl with the sharky boyz , know didn’t think so.

Haas cant control his family specially his mother she was as bad as the brothers from what iv been told .what’s the young bloke to do, slap them.
U’d think the QRL Would just band his family from playing footy and fine them.
He’s only copping it cause he didn’t rat on his family, there was enough people there to get a story from without them bring him into it.
Broncos should on reported it an let the nrl deal with it , it probably would of been under the rag by now. But good on seiballs 4 setting a standed.
