“We would love our time again”: Broncos admit Reynolds failing, but take swipe at stadium

The Brisbane Broncos have admitted they failed retiring star Adam Reynolds during his farewell lap on Thursday evening ahead of the club's final home game of 2026 against the Melbourne Storm.

The club have been widely slammed for the incident, which saw an advertisement segment played while Reynolds made his way around the ground on a farewell lap.

Reynolds, who was fighting to return for the final two weeks of the season but ultimately ruled himself out due to injury, has since taken to the airwaves to declare he has no issue with coach Michael Maguire or the club, but the fallout has continued.

“It was an unfortunate set of circumstances on Thursday night. We would have loved nothing more (than) to honour and celebrate someone that is really important to our football club, has been a great contributor to the game," CEO Dave Donaghy said at a media opportunity on Monday.

“Unfortunately we made some calls that, we would love to have our time again. It was a missed opportunity.“

It was also revealed that the video screens being out for 44 minutes led to the issue with the Broncos needing to squeeze their pre-game in a bid to farewell Reynolds, keep fans on board and fulfil their sponsor obligations.

“Thursday was disappointing. We hire Suncorp Stadium and pay a lot of money to do so,” Donaghy said.

“For big screens to be out for 44 minutes meant there were some challenges with the team to put a show back together.“

The club have been in damage control for much of the second half of the year, with Maguire's credentials to continue leading the Red Hill-based outfit widely questioned.

The Broncos also had a blow up with Reece Walsh liking a post on social media last week, but with the playing group and board continuing to try and keep the club together, there are question marks over the Broncos who have dropped from premiers to the bottom four this year.

Maguire himself has been backed in as the long-term coach, although patience must be running thin, while Reynolds is also likely to join the coaching staff at the Broncos next year.
