The Penrith Panthers are looking to extend the contract of emerging youngster Jarome Luai on a long-term deal.

Following the 21-year old's masterful display during his side's 36-4 win over the Warriors on Friday, Luai is sure to attract the eye of rival clubs.

Filling NSW Blues halfback Nathan Cleary's role due to Origin duty, Luai put in an emphatic performance, scoring 20 points from two tries and six goals in just his second NRL game.

The former Junior Kiwi skipper is contracted at Penrith until the end of the 2019 season, but Panthers boss Phil Gold said the club was actively working on a new deal.

“Absolutely (we are looking to extend him),” Gold told Chanel Nine's Wide World Of Sports.

“I’m confident Jarome is a long-term NRL player. We have never doubted his ability.

“He can play halfback, five-eighth and fullback equally as well. He is on contract for 2019 and we have no plans to let him go.”
