Newcastle great Matty Johns says the Knights should enquire with the Bulldogs about the availability of injured playmaker Kieran Foran.

The Bulldogs revealed on Monday that the 27-year old would require season-ending surgery on his injured toe.

And considering Canterbury are still tied up in back-ended contracts and looking to offload salary, Johns thinks the Knights should at least make a phone call, despite Foran's hefty price tag.

โ€œIf I was the Newcastle Knights, Iโ€™d be making subtle inquiries to the Bulldogs,โ€ Johns toldย The Late Show with Matty Johns.

โ€œAt the right price, Iโ€™d team him up with Mitchell Pearce โ€” theyโ€™re best mates.

โ€œItโ€™d be a fair spine if he gets back to toward best: Foran, Pearce and Kalyn Ponga.

โ€œWhatโ€™s the right price โ€ฆ it depends how much trouble the Bulldogs are in (salary cap wise).

โ€œIf youโ€™re the Knights, for $500,000 would you take a punt and have a subtle inquiry?

โ€œItโ€™s high risk, but if it pays off, big dividends.โ€
