New South Wales coach Brad Fittler wants to have his Origin side selected before Round 11, reports the Sydney Herald.

Even though this weekend's Indigenous Round is widely viewed as a final audition for players looking to prove their Origin prospects, Fittler wants to have his team sorted prior to Sunday night's announcement.

He will meet with advisor Greg Alexander and assistant coaches Danny Buderus and Craig Fitzgibbon on Wednesday in hopes of picking a 17 and a couple of reserves.

There is sure to be a number of first-time players, while speculation continues to mount on who will start in the halves.

While Fittler and his assistants want to have a side pencilled in on Wednesday, injuries could yet play a factor in the make-up of the team.

Although Cleary is the halfback of the future and the next 10 years, he is not the halfback right now. He may have got the job done last year but he was in way better form than what he was is in now. We need to save him from the backlash if we lose game 1 and he has a shocker.

  2. In all honesty, coming from a Panthers supporter here. But I think Cleary hasn’t down too bad in a piss poor team, unfortunately your going to look like your out of form when your playing with a bunch of muppets. The only thing I think Cleary needs to work on is taking more charge of the team. Hopefully if he gets picked again for the Blues that’s the area that he’ll improve on and bring that experience back with him in Penrith.
But if you watch him play, he probably is the only player having a go in the Panthers Jersey.

  3. Well if I’m being honest he was doing fine of taking charge of the Panthers team, til Maloney came last year. Don’t get me wrong, in some ways Jimmy has been good for him but in other ways it’s been bad also. I haven’t watched much of the Panthers this year if I’m being honest, I don’t think much people can say they have but if I’m Freddy I’m telling Nathan he needs to get some form under his belt and maybe he’ll be back for game 2 or 3 in the series barring any injuries. It’s not the fact he’s playing bad, it’s just he’s low on confidence and showing no type of form he was in last year when he got the jersey, Reynolds is playing a lot better and is in better form.

  4. Maloney & Cleary haven’t played well as a combination at all really. Each has played better without the other.
Fittler can’t choose Cleary if he’s choosing a team on form , like last year.
However, Cleary has been in first grade long enough now & is paid plenty. So time for him to take over at Penrith. Maloneg to go & Liai given certainty & the permanent spot in first grade. Even if Cleary goes to 5/8th at Penrith, he can still run a lot of the Syd from there. Just as Keary does at the Nuggets.

  5. I can’t remember his form to start the 06 season but QLD stuck with Thurston after losing the 05 series…

  6. He is s sook like Moylan. Worst thing the players could do was push for the sacking of Hook. You need the hard truth to improve and that is why the panthers and Cleary have gone backwards.
