Broncos winger Corey Oates has revealed that that skipper Darius Boyd has turned vegan in a ploy to help deliver the club a premiership.

Oates says Boyd was inspired by Netflix documentary The Game Changersย as he looks to get any advantage he can on the rest of the competition in the off-season.

The documentary shines a light on the benefits of turning to the plant-based diet and has gained a cult following globally.

A number of other major sporting stars have turned vegan and reaped the rewards, including Formula One star Lewis Hamilton, tennis aces Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams and Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli.

โ€œDarbs watched the video and he suggested it (a vegan lifestyle),โ€ Oates told The Courier Mail.ย

โ€œHe is massive on his documentaries and it started getting around the club.

โ€œI heard Darius is trying it (a vegan diet) and it might suit someone like Darius. I donโ€™t know how much he eats but heโ€™s pretty lean compared to our bigger forwards.โ€

Several other Broncos watchedย The Game Changerย following Boyd's diet change, but Oates does not believe they will be following suit.

โ€œNo chance for me (of being vegan),โ€ Oates said.

โ€œI can do it one day a week but I canโ€™t live like that every day.

โ€œI canโ€™t see forwards like Patty Carrigan or Tevita doing it long term. Tevita loves meat too much, heโ€™s no chance.

โ€œThe players that do it sometimes, you see them lose a lot of weight.

โ€œI donโ€™t know how long it will last, especially when we are getting flogged in the Brisbane heat.

โ€œIโ€™m not massive on nutrition but I would find it hard (to sustain).

โ€œWhen you are drained, the first thing I want to do is have a big meal with lots of protein.

โ€œI donโ€™t know how I would go just eating tofu.โ€

  1. Ha Ha Ha

Broncos won’t make the finals in 2020 then.

He will bloat, lose stamina and is generally at risk of doing his body real harm. Better than Maccas or KFC I will agree but I hope he is getting some very good medical advice if he goes down this route long term.

  2. Seriously? If I didn’t know any better, I would say Zero Tackle are scratching around around for news.
Here’s a story…..Brian Johnston has announced he will be stepping down as Dragons CEO for personal reasons. Now that’s what I would describe as news, not petty little tales like Darius Boyd’s devious little ploy to win a Premiership with the Broncos.
Come on ZT, the majority of readers & bloggers on this site would laugh at this dribble.

  3. First thoughts, that’s just nuts, but apparently they eat fruit & veg as well.
But seriously, why, who cares, and the list goes on?
