Former Brisbane Broncos star Corey Parker has raised his hand to help bring the club back to its glory days following a poor title defence season in 2026.

The club faces the prospect of finishing last in the competition, only 10 months after raising the trophy on the first weekend of October to snap a 19-year premiership drought.

Compounded by a horror injury toll this year, the club has failed to meet expectations on the field, recording six wins and 15 losses so far this year.

The Broncos have lost eight straight games, with Michael Maguire's patience growing thin when quizzed on where it went wrong.

“Not good enough, just plain and simple. We won't want to do that next weekend because we'll cop the same. It was really disappointing, that one. We're not playing the style that we know we've practised,” the Broncos coach said following his 40-6 defeat against the Warriors at home.

“The boys are playing for the Broncos jersey that they wear. That is not good enough. I normally keep calm at these things. We need to have a good hard look at ourselves."

Former premiership-winner Parker has insisted he is interested in helping the club get back to where they strive to be when he was queried on a role at Queensland's glamour club.

"I've worked within the four walls at Brisbane, and I love the club," Parker said on Channel Seven's Agenda Setters: Rugby League.

"It's a club that I know no different. I've been there my whole life. If there was an opportunity for me to be back into that club and the club thought that I was the right person for that role, not because I played there, but because I was the right person for that role, absolutely. Absolutely, I'd be putting my hand up to walk back into the Brisbane Broncos because of what it means to me, but it has to be for the right reasons.

"Why anyone gets appointed has to be for the betterment of the football club, not because it's an ego thing, not because it's your personnel. If you're making decisions based on the betterment of the football club, absolutely I'd put my hand up."

Parker has played a herculean 347 NRL games for the Broncos and is widely considered a club legend at the powerhouse side.

The veteran lock offering his services would no doubt drive standards and aid their quest in returning to finals football next season.

The Broncos have the Raiders, Storm and Bulldogs to close out their season, and with the last-placed Dragons finding some late-season form, they risk claiming the dreaded wooden spoon.

The gap between the Red V and the Broncos has now shrunk to two wins, meaning the Broncos must find a win before the season finishes.

They will be creating an unwanted slice of history, being the first defending premiers to receive the wooden spoon in the subsequent year in over 70 years, well before the code went professional.

They will travel to the nation's capital to face the Raiders on Friday.
