Former Brisbane Broncos player Alex Glenn found himself in hot water after the Melbourne Storm made an official complaint to the NRL about his ground announcing when they visited Suncorp Stadium last Thursday.
Glenn was accused of using his microphone to start chants to throw off the Storm players who were attempting to catch kicks mid-game.
Since then, the NRL has warned clubs about the appropriate use of ground announcers and when they can interject during the match so they don't impact critical moments of the contest.
The former Broncos skipper has staunchly defended his actions from last week, labelling his work "harmless", with the 285-game forward explaining he has done similar actions all year.
“Oh mate, it's been the news of the week,” Glenn said on SEN's Saturday League Kick-Off.
“It must be pretty boring in Brisbane here if they're scraping the barrel to find that out, but you know me, we win at all costs.
“It's harmless, it's harmless, I've been doing it all year, and it just so happened to be our last home game.
“Melbourne wanted to file a complaint, and it is what it is.
"I was just having a bit of fun, and like I said, I've been doing it all year to every opposition.”
Former Penrith Panthers winger Josh Mansour also came under fire as the ground announcer at his former club's home game at CommBank Stadium three weeks ago.
Reports from the Sydney Morning Herald reveal the Sydney Roosters made a complaint to the NRL after Mansour allegedly dropped his microphone down to shout out to Penrith winger Thomas Jenkins with advice during the stoppage of play.
The NRL did not take the situation any further with Mansour after a quick investigation found light-hearted motives rather than tactical decisions.
Glenn has been in the Broncos' role as game-day announcer since 2025 and is expected to continue with his work into the 2027 season.
