The Warriors are looking to re-sign utility Jazz Tevaga amongst interest from several rival clubs.
The 23-year old has been a bright spot for New Zealand in an otherwise disappointing season, having dropped three of their last four games.
Tevaga's preference is to remain at the Warriors but admitted seeking out a good deal is a important.
"Hopefully I can finalise something here," Tevaga toldย The New Zealandย Herald.
"I would prefer to stay. But if not, I have to look after myself. Hopefully they see me in their long-term plans, but if I don't fit, then so be it."
Tevaga's agent Bruce Sharrock said he was wanting a two-year deal.
"There has been some external interest but Jazz wants to stay with the Warriors and we are in that process and I am hopeful of an outcome," Sharrock said.
"The club want him to stay. I'm hopeful we can get to a place everyone can agree on. We are not miles apart but it's my role to make sure we reach the right value."
Tevaga is approaching game number 50 in three matches after making his NRL debut in a breakout 2016 season.
He was named Interchange Player of the Year at the 2018 Dally M awards and has built his reputation as an interchange utility.
Tevaga showed his worth at lock in New Zealand's clash against Penrith, recordingย 187m from 22 carries and 45 tackles.
"I thought I did reasonably well," Tevaga.
"I came off a bit to restrap my ankle. From when I hurt it against the Broncos [in round 11], it is still not 100 per cent but I can manage it. I thought I had a solid performance but everyone has got improvements in them."
Warriors need to sign him up for 3 years and plan a long term future with him going to be at Lock. Heโs a tackling machine that is small enough and fast enough to ball handle. For his size he manages to make good metres in the middle and has a good offload.
That is true, I feel he is quite underrated.
And does seem to make good metres on hit ups for him size. Warriors prob need to play him as an 80 min lock so they can interchange the props around a bit more
I’m hearing souffs are after him.
You have a hearing problem.
Souths? Heโs not British lol heโs a kiwi version of cam Murray pocket dynamo but better utility while Murray is more polished
