After injuring his hamstring in his second game back from the same injury against South Sydney, Manly flyer Tom Trbojevic has conceded that he has all but lost his NSW Blues jumper for Origin I.

While he has already been sidelined for two weeks thanks to the unfortunate reoccurrence, Trbojevic revealed to the Sydney Morning Herald that he was set to miss another six games before his return.

This would mean he would return against the North Queensland Cowboys in round 13 on the 8th of June, three days after Origin I in Brisbane.

“They reckon about eight weeks, give or take a few,” Trbojevic told the Sydney Morning Herald in regards to his potential return date.

“You don’t know how it’s going to go. But they have told me I won’t be back before eight weeks, which is something I will be trying to push.

“You think about [Origin] but when it comes down to it you can’t really. You’ve got to be back on the footy field playing good footy to get picked in those sides. At the moment I have definitely come to terms with that. I’ve got to get my hammy right, I don’t want to do it again. Get it right, play some good footy for Manly and go from there.”

While Blues coach Brad Fittler has previously stated that he would give the man known as Turbo as much time as needed to prove himself fit prior to Origin I, it is extremely unlikely he would call him into the squad with zero match fitness. Particularly with the impressive form of fellow wingers Josh Addo-Carr, Blake Ferguson and Nick Cotrirc.

“I will just work as hard as I can to get it fully fit. If you’re back playing earlier you’re playing, but if you’re not, you’re not," Trbojevic added.

“I started doing a bit on the treadmill, so not too much. A bit in the gym as well. You can’t just go out on the field and do sprints, it takes a bit of time. I will get to that and then you’ve got to get back to being able to run to the demands of the game and full training.”

Having missed the first two rounds thanks to sustaining an injury to his left hamstring during a pre-season, the injury Trbojevic suffered against South Sydney was similar in nature but instead was a different part of the hamstring.

“I’ve got to take that extra time,” he added.

“The physios will talk to me about that and I’m really confident in the medical staff we have got here to get back fully fit.

“They won’t be taking any shortcuts, they’ll be doing everything they can to get it right.”

  1. Bias opinion yes, but Freddy should give Cotric the nod. Yes Fergo is in better form…but, he had his shot and blew it.
