The Gold Coast Titans are in discussions over allowing outside back Jaylan De Groot to explore opportunities elsewhere despite being contracted to the club for the 2027 season.
Under normal circumstances, the 23-year-old would have to wait until November 1 to formally explore his options with rival clubs; however, the Titans are understood to be open to allowing De Groot to discuss a potential move ahead of next season.
ESPN revealed the news on Saturday, with multiple rival clubs interested in his signature.
De Groot is a versatile option across the backline, capable of playing on the wing, at centre and at fullback.
The Titans junior made his NRL debut in 2024 and has made eight appearances this season, featuring across the wing and centre.
The development comes as the Titans face the prospect of a significant overhaul in their outside backs, with AJ Brimson, also recently permitted to negotiate with rival clubs despite being contracted to the Gold Coast until the end of 2030.
Brimson previously held the Titans' fullback jersey but has shifted between the centres and halves in recent seasons. The 27-year-old has made it clear that fullback remains his preferred position, although Keano Kini currently occupies the role, with Jayden Campbell also an option.
The Titans will also lose winger Phillip Sami next season, with the veteran outside back set to join the St George Illawarra Dragons.
As a result, the Titans' backline could look considerably different in 2027 and beyond.
For Saturday afternoon's clash against the South Sydney Rabbitohs, Kini is the only member of the Titans' backline with a long-term first-grade contract, while emerging centre Siale Faeamani is set to be promoted to the club's Top 30 squad for the 2027 season.
De Groot, Brimson and Sami will all feature in Saturday's match, with the trio set to wear special jerseys honouring Jai Arrow's career along with their teammates.
Arrow was forced into retirement earlier this year after being diagnosed with motor neurone disease.
