Gold Coast could face competition to land their first-choice replacement for Gareth Brennan.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, St Helens coach Justin Holbrook is the front runner for the vacant Titans position, but may have his head swayed by developments at Canterbury.

Dean Pay is believed to be under pressure at the Bulldogs and could be replaced by Holbrook, whose stock has been on the rise after steering the Saints to the top of the ladder, five wins clear of their nearest opponents.

Gold Coast powerbrokers have identified Holbrook as their preferred candidate after Queensland coach Kevin Walters ruled himself out of the running.

Gold Coast chairman Dennis Watt said it was his preference to appoint a head coach with NRL experience, which puts Tim Sheens, Anthony Griffin and Geoff Toovey into contention.

Other potential candidates include Jim Dymock, Jason Demetriou and brothers Ben and Shane Walker.

  1. There you go the cl0wns at St George, a long list of candidates for our coach, but not a peep from the useless board. Imbec!le McGregor still says they’ll win the comp and they can’t even defend a set of 6 on their line.

  2. Geoff Toovey took an Nrl team to a grand final. Why his name is never mentioned is bewildering. Holbrook has won nothing yet and even if he wins the English comp, its a lot harder to get a team into an Nrl decider.
