Leilani Latu (Gold Coast Titans)

Many deemed the Penrith Panthers insane for releasing Latu early from a rich three-year contract. However, as is the case with many on this list, poor form and injury have seen Latu manage just six appearances in the top grade in 2018.

Averaging just 46 metres and 11 tackles per game along with the fact he’s missed 14 tackles (more than double than the games he’s played this season) this year has turned out to be Latu’s worst NRL season to date.

Hopefully, he can return to the form that saw him tipped a future State of Origin forward, in 2019.

  1. Seriously?
Not only should Hayne NOT be on this list but you have him as high as 4th and only have Cartwright as an honourable mention.
Hayne was injured for most of the season with a serious health issue.
That doesn’t make him the 4th worst signing in the NRL.
Seriously the author of this blog is clueless.

  2. I agree Big Kev, Hayne shouldn’t be in this list as he is giving great value for money now. Half the problem was Arthur not letting the Dally M winner Hayne play fullback and still to this day the stubborn Arthur has no clue that Hayne’s best is at fullback with his ballplaying 5/8 skills where he can pop up anywhere anytime causing Havoc.

Jack Bird and Foran are genuine flops of the year. Kane Evans should be in the top 5

  3. Hang about.

Cartwright on $750k who goes from Lock to 5/8 to bench utility to reserve grade in year 1 of a 4 year deal gets an honourable mention?
You could argue he has 3 years left to make up for it, or you could argue he’s got another couple of $mil coming.

    What about Woods, at 8th?
From a Doggies perspective, he signs a 4 year deal at $800k p.a, plays half a season of “average” footy, costing tha Dogs $400k for that, and around $300k p.a for the remainder of his contract (3.5 years).
That’s a total cost of around $1.5 mil for half a season of average footy, and he’s in 8th?

  4. This is a pretty clear troll list. Trent Hodkinson and Hunt honorable mentions for what? Cartwright clearly top 3 in worst signings.

  5. Foran only played 9 games for parramatta and quit before the end of his first contracted season. He definitely never played two.
