The Queensland Maroons camp has been rocked by the news Patrick Carrigan will miss Game 2 of the State of Origin series with an ankle injury sustained playing for the Brisbane Broncos on Sunday afternoon.
The shock loss for the Broncos, which was the first win of the year for the St George Illawarra Dragons, will leave plenty of question marks surrounding that club, but more immediately, Billy Slater will need to pick a replacement.
There are as many as six players he could lean on, with some requiring a slight strategy tweak for Carrigan's bench spot.
Here are the options.
3. Beau Fermor
Fermor has been a quiet achiever at the Titans this year, with the club out of sight, out of mind and at the bottom of the ladder.
That is absolutely not the fault of Fermor though.
An experienced player who has played Origin before, he wouldn't look out of place if called into the side, and under the same premise as Luki, there is an argument to be made around his ball-running and the importance of second-rowers.
Where he might have the advantage is his versatility. He can play in the centres, defends well, and it could well allow Queensland to stack the bench with an extra forward given they also have to replace Gehamat Shibasaki.
There is a very real world where Fermor sits on the bench as a utility second-rower and centre, allowing Slater better versatility out of his other five spots.
