Feleti Mateo has been allowed to terminate his contract with the Salford Red Devils for family reasons.

The Tonga international loose forward joined the Red Devils just before the transfer deadline in July, but leaves after making only three appearances.

Mateo joined the Super League club at the same time as Luke Burgess, with both coming in from the NRL’s Manly Sea Eagles.

A club statement read: “Salford Red Devils can confirm that recent signing Feleti Mateo has been released from the remainder of his contract to return to Australia for family reasons.

“The club would like to wish Feleti well and thank him for his efforts.”
