Sydney premiership centre Latrell Mitchell has been fined for a high tackle on Rabbitoh Sam Burgess during Friday night's 26-16 loss to South Sydney.

The incident occurred in the 55th minute of the contest, with Mitchell charged with a grade one careless high tackle following the hit.

Mitchell can accept the penalty and put in an early plea for a $1650 fine, or he can fight the charge and risk a $2100 fine if found guilty.

Meanwhile, Brisbane's Matt Lodge has accepted a two-game ban for his dangerous tackle on Melbourne's Cameron Munster.

Lodge will miss the Broncos' next two fixtures, as his side face North Queensland in round two and St George Illawarra in round three.
