Calm and cryptic.
These are the words being used to describe Brisbane Broncos' captain Adam Reynolds who is currently sidelined after aggravating his previously injured calf in training this week.
There were hopes the 323-game veteran would see the field one more time before he retires, but this new development has truly thrown a spanner in the works, with Reynolds already ruled out for this weekend's clash against the New Zealand Warriors.
Brisbane have now confirmed that he has suffered a calf strain, but will be assessed on a week-by-week basis.
"Scans at the Clive Berghofer Centre's Qscan facility confirmed that Broncos Captain Adam Reynolds sustained a grade 1 soleus strain on his right calf at training yesterday," the Broncos wrote a statement.
"His return-to-play timeline will be determined on a week-by-week basis."
Interestingly, though, Reynolds told reporters that his absence from the lineup isn't injury related.
Whether that proves to be true remains to be seen as the veteran will undergo scans today to confirm whether his season and more importantly, his career is over.
With the possibility of not having a farewell game, Reynolds remained tight-lipped when speaking to reporters on Tuesday night, refusing to confirm or deny whether he has played his last NRL game.
"Don't know, I'll find out. I will keep you guessing," he told the media.
"If there's a farewell, there's a farewell. If not, look I am happy with the career I have had."
In his place, the Broncos have named Tom Duffy at halfback who recently signed a contract extension till the end of 2028, showing his desire to become the club's long-term fullback
With the Broncos purely playing for pride now, Reynolds may very well be content to take a step back for the final few games and begin working as a coach and mentor, a role he will formally take up next year at the club.
