The Wests Tigers are nearing a deal with coach Ivan Cleary to release him from his position, in order to secure Brisbane coach Wayne Bennett on a long-term contract.

NRL.com believe Cleary could be released from his contract in order to join his son Nathan at the Panthers, while Bennett could move to Wests and take over from as early as next season.

Cleary has reportedly already committed to the Panthers for three seasons from 2021, although given the Tigers understand he won't be the coach in the long term, they are willing to release him from his contract in order to bring Bennett in.

Bennett was recently advised 2019 will be his last season at the Broncos, although the Tigers are working hard to bring him over to coach from next season.

The main barrier for Bennett's move to the Tigers could be his pay packet, with the supercoach likely needing to have to take a pay cut to join the Tigers.

However, given his situation, it it believed he'll be willing to join the Tigers on a smaller wage in order to have another crack at a premiership.
