The Super League's Toronto Wolfpack are prepared to pay Sonny Bill Williams a monster $9 million deal over two years, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

It would make the 34-year old the highest paid player in the history of rugby and rugby league in a historic deal.

He would be signed as a Super League marquee player, which according to league rules, means only $300,000 of his annual salary would count towards the salary cap.

Williams has received offers from a number of multi-million dollar offers other overseas clubs, which would still make him one of the highest paid players in either code.

These big-money offers will blow out any made by NRL clubs despite some registering interest.

Sydney Roosters chairman Nick Politis met with Williams' agent Khoder Nasser, but the reigning premiers will not be able to compete with the rival offers.

Australian mining billionaire and part Wolfpack owner David Argyle confirmed the lub's interest in Williams in February.

"We are working towards making Sonny Bill Williams a Wolfpack player for 2020. We would love to have him join the Wolfpack family and we will pay whatever it takes to make that happen," Argyle told Fox Sports.

"The excitement he would bring to the sport of rugby league in this country would be incredible."

  1. You’d have to be an idiot to not take that money. 4.5 mil a year for 2 years. That’s more than a good player gets over his whole career. Plus he would be playing league in the UK which is an easier competition. Also hear they possibly want to add more nrl players. They already have former kiwis centre Chase Stanley, Ricky Leutele, Josh McCrone, Bodene Thompson and Darcy Lussick.
Kieran Foran and SBW would be so solid for them.

“Breaking news, roosters have found a extra 5million per year for SBW. Looks like he’s coming back the the NRL”

A little exaggerated Olive, I heard its only 4.5 million but over 3 years, a new house and Bentley and a private school fees covered for his kids for the next 10 years.
