ANZ Stadium will not be ready to host the grand final until 2023, according to a report by Fairfax Media.

The venue was originally supposed to be ready to host the deciders from 2021, however, The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting that the earliest it will be available from is December 2022.

It means the grand finals will need to look elsewhere, with currently all that is locked in is the 2020 fixture being held at the SCG.

The NSW is confident of keeping the match in the state, but it is believed that the NRL is keen to move it to Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium for 2021.

Queensland is expected to make an aggressive pitch to land the rights to host the showcase event.

Queensland Rugby League chairman Bruce Hatcher believes his state has the necessary resources to host grand finals.

“What fascinates me is that we only get one game (in Queensland) every two weeks and we get far bigger crowds than they get in Sydney, so we need to get fair dinkum about it,” Hatcher told The Sydney Morning Herald.

“You should earn the right for these sort of things and I think Queensland has a good stadium. I’m all for it.”

  1. Keep it in NSW no matter what…..the SCG can hold the equivalent of Queenslands……Lang Park…..which is just over 50k…..

I dont understand what the big fuss is all about….undoubtedly in the name of progress the Olympic Stadium is being revamped….. the SCG is the obvious option with its gloriously superb Grand Final History….

My only concern is do we …at the Cardinal Transit And Myrtle Lounge ……play at our arch rivals the World Champion Sydney Roosters and current Premiers home ground….. or muscle our way out West further to Parramatta…….Irrefutably we at my beloved South Sydney are the Nomadic Hares🐰🐾🐾
