South Sydney Rabbitohs chief executive Blake Solly is positive the club will extend Cody Walker for an extra season in 2027.
Walker is a free agent beyond this year, but has still been playing at a quality rate at age 36, which is expected to get him a 12-month contract offer, given he is keen to keep playing.
It means he will see his time out at the Bunnies as a one-club legend, after making his NRL debut at 26-years-old ten years ago.
Following an injury-ravaged season last year, where he only played 11 games, Walker has returned this year in brilliant fashion.
The former NSW Blues representative is third in the competition in try assists, second in line break assists and equal second in 40/20's.
When Walker is on, the Bunnies are hard to beat, especially given Latrell Mitchell is returning to his left edge this weekend.
Solly is hopeful he decides to play on in 2027, with a contract expected to be tabled for the Indigenous star.
“Yeah, I think he's gonna play on, which is great news,” Solly said on SEN's Kick Off.
“We said to Cody a couple of months ago, let's sit back and let the season take its course, concentrate on going as far as we can in the finals and having the best possible season.
“He had to make the decision about whether he wanted to play in ‘27, and then once the season finishes, we'll sit down, and hopefully we can extend him by another year and see what happens after that, but his form in the last few weeks has been terrific.
“Obviously, he's loving playing; he's pretty keen to play behind Payne Haas as well, so it's great that he wants to keep playing in the form that he's in at the moment and the way in which his composure has come to the fore.
“I think that makes it a pretty easy decision for all of us at the end of the season.”
The Rabbitohs will host foundation archrivals Sydney Roosters at Allianz Stadium on Friday night, where Jai Arrow will notch up his 100th game for the Rabbitohs in a special celebration for the NRL forward battling motor neurone disease.
