South Sydney has released a statement addressing reports in the media suggesting star outside back Dane Gagai is seeking a move away from Redfern.

Following the news that broke on Tuesday night, the Rabbitohs' website has released the following statement, including quotes from coach Wayne Bennett.

The Rabbitohs have refuted reports in todayโ€™s media that Dane Gagai is considering leaving the Rabbitohs ahead of the completion of his contract.

The Rabbitohs have stated that there has been no approach from Dane himself, or his management, about a release from his contract.

Rabbitohs Head Coach Wayne Bennett said: โ€œI have spoken to Dane this morning about reports in the media today.

โ€œHe has reiterated that his preferred position is centre, which he has said to me previously, however he is happy to play on the wing, or in fact any position in which the team needs him to play.

โ€œHe is committed to the Club, he loves playing here, and he has no intention of leaving the Club over next few years as per his contract.โ€

  1. I would call it gutter journalism as well, but I fell for it last month with James Roberts. And before that with Wayne Bennett.

  2. Wayno is insayno, king of it has taken the king of speed less than 7days to upset the toxic Souths club, Mr Burns can deny all he likes but no ones listening anymore. He left carnage at Newcastle and did the same at StG, ask yourself why his โ€œbest mateโ€ had him sacked! Comedy gold and Iโ€™m loving it
Crash n burn glory glory ! Forever in the shadow of a giant Chicken

  3. Dane is entitled to see himself as a centre but:
QLD picked him on the wing, even though he has had his fair share of games playing centre at the bunnies (and sorry they have been ordinary), QLD went for Morgan in the centres, So it’s not only us that see him as a winger.. Surprised Dane didn’t speak up and complain why he wasn’t picked as a centre… 700K for a winger is rather excessive – don’t you think…. More money for Latrell,…..
