- Roger Tuivasa-Sheck (New Zealand Warriors)
Backed up his Dally M Medal win last season with a starring role against Canterbury on the weekend. Scored a try, set up another and ran for over 200 run metres.
- Corey Oates (Brisbane Broncos)
Gave the Broncos hope later on in the contest as he almost single-handedly kept his side in the game. Scored both of Brisbane’s tries and broke 11 tackles on his way to 223 run metres.
- Curtis Scott (Melbourne Storm)
Now three seasons into his first-grade career, Curtis Scott looks every bit the NRL player. Scored a try and earnt his side 207 run metres off the back of 21 carries.
- Solomone Kata (New Zealand Warriors)
He was the most capped Warrior with just 87 first grade caps to his name as he ran out for the Warriors on Saturday afternoon and repaid that faith with a try double in a busy performance.
- Nene Macdonald (North Queensland Cowboys)
Has added speed to the Cowboys' backline this season and will form a formidable wing combination with Kyle Feldt once he returns from injury. Scored a try, broke a handful of tackles and ran for 180 metres in North Queensland’s 12-point victory over St. George Illawarra.
- Cameron Munster (Melbourne Storm)
Was named the man of the match in the first game of the NRL season on Thursday night. Was a handful every time he touched the football and showed why he won’t be forgotten when it comes to State of Origin selection talk (which will probably begin next week…).

- Adam Reynolds (South Sydney Rabbitohs)
Has matured this off-season under the tutelage of the master coach Wayne Bennett. Controlled the game from the get-go and looks well on his way to enter career-best form. Set up three tries and earnt a whopping 438 kick metres for his side; which included three forced drop-outs.
- Jesse Bromwich (Melbourne Storm)
After a couple of seasons below his best, Bromwich played some of his best football in recent years against the Broncos. Ran for 160 run metres, completed 25 tackles and earnt a try off the back of a barnstorming run.
- Robbie Farah (Wests Tigers)
Two second-half tries secured the game for his side after a low scoring first half affair. Completed 45 tackles and added a line break assist from dummy-half.
- David Klemmer (Newcastle Knights)
Earned cult hero status after his first game in the Hunter. Ran for over 200 metres, completed 33 tackles and proved to be the main source of secondary play with three offloads.
- Jason Taumalolo (North Queensland Cowboys)
Started the game on the edge in place of ex-skipper Gavin Cooper but later moved into the middle during his second stint of the contest. Ran for 301 run metres, broke six tackles, earnt two-line breaks, set up a try and even forced a drop out in a scintillating performance.
- Ryan Matterson (Wests Tigers)
Added some much-needed class to Wests' back row this season. Completed 35 tackles and ran for 160 run metres as the Tigers went on to win their first game of the season.
- Cameron Murray (South Sydney Rabbitohs)
Was around the ball all contest and never slowed down. Scored a much-deserved try as he finished the game with 155 run metres and 30 tackles.
