The return of NRL Nines will take place in Perth early next year, according to reports.

The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting that the event will take place over two days in February at HBF Stadium in the Western Australian capital, which defeated bids from Melbourne and Newcastle.

The reported decision comes as a groundswell of support builds for a NRL team in Perth, driven largely by this year's second State of Origin clash, which drew a big crowd to Optus Stadium; as well as the recent announcement that the Bulldogs have agreed to play three games in Perth over a three-year period from next year.

Next year's event in Perth will mark the first time NRL Nines has been held since 2017.
