Penrith Panthers captain Matt Moylan is set to join the Cronulla Sharks, in a direct player swap for Kangaroos halve James Maloney.

The lucrative $6 million dollar move will cause a transfer merry-go-round within the league, with Blake Green, and Jarryd Hayne's futures still remaining uncertain.

The Daily Telegraph reports, Moylan will ink a deal with Cronulla for four-years, worth $3.6 million dollars.

James Maloney will link up with his sixth NRL club, the Penrith Panthers, on a three-year deal worth around $2.5 million.

Moylan's fallout with coach Anthony Griffin was well-publicised, sidelining him out of the finals due to apparent 'personal issues'. It was no secret Moylan was unhappy at Penrith, triggering him to transfer over to the Shire.

A pivotal factor in Moylan's decision includes the fact that Moylan wants to play alongside childhood mate, Andrew Fifita, who he grew up with in Sydney's West.

James Maloney will line up for Australia in this Friday's clash against France.

Cronulla will express interest in Mitchell Pearce; who could forge a formidable combination with Moylan at the Shire.

Moylan has proved that he possesses an arsenal of weapons that he could utilise to a team's advantage. On the other hand, Maloney, a two-time premiership winner, can lead the inexperienced Penrith side into genuine premiership contenders.

It's a good outcome for both clubs, needing an injection of new blood, after two lacklustre seasons.
