Moses Mbye is set to play fullback for the Canterbury Bulldogs next season, with Will Hopoate expected to move into the centres.
The team overhaul is a part of Dean Pay's plans to reinvigorate the Bulldog's attacking style, after a forgettable 2017 campaign.
Mbye never looked comfortable in the halfback jersey this season and he admitted it himself.
It was evident that the talented 24-year-old simply didn't belong, believing that a position elsewhere would reignite his professional career.
Despite a mixed 2016 season, Mbye impressed many and perhaps he was under immense pressure for season 2017. Mbye is a highly talented Queensland product and was tipped to make his way into the QLD camp but fell short after a lacklustre season.
After a string of disappointing performances earlier this season, Mbye admitted he struggled with finding his place in the team.
"Look, to be honest, if I had to give an answer now, I'd say I was a utility," Mbye said.
"I've managed to fill a few roles at this level. I've covered every position in the back line and played hooker in the forwards. It's a pretty good indication that I'm a utility.
"I think as I mature as a footballer, get more games under my belt and experience out on the field and work out combinations, that's when I'll really work out what I am.
"It's a tough one because I haven't had that conversation yet and I think it's a little bit too early to have that conversation considering the way things goย with injuries and
chopping and changing.
"If there's a hole for me to fill in that spot [hooker], I'm more than happy to put my hand up. I'm enjoying the physicality and the contest and the challenge of that role. It will be good to learn the game inside blokes like Matt and Kieran and whoever is coming on board for us next season. We'll have to wait and see [what] the future holds."
A move to fullback could be just what Mbye needs to kick-start both the Bulldogs and his 2018 campaign.
