Parramatta winger Maika Sivo has signed a new deal with the Eels, which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2021 NRL season.

Sivo made his debut at the age of 25 in round one earlier this year, and went on to finish the season with a league-high 22 tries.

He was one of the finalists of the Dally M Rookie of the Year award, and took home the Ken Irvine Medal as the game's leading try scorer.

  1. Awesome, and well done to him.
To all the other Panther “juniors”, take note. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, albeit it’s tinted blue and gold. That one (comment) was made in jest, and especially for you EOD.

  2. I wouldn’t even say we took a punt Panthers. We signed him a a depth player and as it turned out injuries meant we had to play him in round 1. If we didn’t have a couple of injuries to outside backs at the beginning of the year, things may have been completely different and who knows how much first grade Sivo would have even played.

That said, Sivo took full advantage of the opportunity and has earned this upgrade and extension. I only hope that we can extend it further in due time.

  3. I guess my point is that I don’t consider it a punt signing a relatively unknown player to an entry level contract is all. By that I mean I don’t necessarily think, at the time, the Panthers would have, nor should have, been too concerned about losing him. In hindsight it seems like a massive blunder, but at the time it definitely would not have been seen that way.
