Valentine Holmes has categorically ruled out returning to the NRL this season if his NFL adventure doesn’t work out.

“It’s zero”, Holmes said when quizzed by AAP of the chances of a return to Australia and rugby league if his American dream doesn’t materialise.

“I’m very happy with my decision that I’m over here.”

The ex-Cronulla fullback has a month remaining in an intensive 12-week program at the IMG Academy in Florida designed to prepare him for the NFL after he was selected for the NFL Pathways Program which is designed for elite non-US athletes to access the NFL.

Holmes said he was surprised to learn of Cronulla chief executive Barry Russell’s resignation, after he had helped guide the Sharks through their salary cap scandal.

“It’s quite disappointing,” Holmes said.

“He’ll be missed. He was a player at the club for a long time and part of the club and board and CEO so I’m sure all of the players and staff there are going to miss him.”

Holmes’ biggest step towards an NFL contract will come when scouts will visit the IMG Academy  next month for a Pathway players combine.

  1. He only really said he won’t come back this year, not forever. He’ll be back next year for sure if he fails over there. He’ll be a cowboy next year.

  2. All I know is he won’t play 1 minute of NFL, he’s got no chance.
He’ll be wearing the no1 at the Cowboys before the seasons end despite what he said.
