Greg Inglis has returned to training with the South Sydney Rabbitohs following a ruptured ACL in the opening round of lastย season.

He had a light training session on Friday, with South's high-performance team observing Inglis, alongside coach Anthony Seibold.

South's head of high-performance manager Paul Devlin was ecstatic to see him complete the rehabilitation process, after sitting out for eight months.

"It's fantastic for everybody โ€“ staff included โ€“ to see Greg out there with the team," Devlin said.

"We've been cautious and are taking it really slowly with him. He's progressed well and is an absolute freak.

โ€œHeโ€™s starting his re-conditioning return-to-training program now - heโ€™s progressed really, really well. Heโ€™s been training at an exceptionally high standard - weโ€™re very, very happy with him.

"Jared Wade (Sports Science and Rehab Coach) and Eddie Farah (Head Physiotherapist) have done a fantastic job with him in rehab, weโ€™ve been very cautious and taken it really slowly with him.โ€

Inglis won't be allowed to perform stepping and leaping movements.

โ€œHeโ€™s been training at an exceptionally high standard - weโ€™re very, very happy with him. Looking forward to having him back on the field, re-conditioning him and getting some running into his legs over the next couple of weeks.โ€

Inglis will remain as South's captain, despite his rather forgettable season.
