The St George Illawarra Dragons have provided an update on recent recruitment and retention speculation surrounding the club.

Director of Rugby League Pathways Ian Millward has denied speculation that the Dragons will look to bolster their halves with controversial player Chris Sandow.

"Obviously it keeps getting linked with the halfback position and obviously the latest one is Chris Sandow. I can say Chris Sandow won't be with our club in 2017 and onwards, " Millward said.

"What we've got we feel is the best people available and we're really happy with them."

Millward has also provided an update on contract negotiations with local Hurstville United junior Luciano Leilua who is presently off-contract.

The re-signing process has stalled while Leilua seeks new management. Leilua has been training with the first-grade pre-season squad in the mean time.

"Like I said, Luce is training with us. We want Luce as a Dragon and I'm pretty confident Luce and his family want to be Dragons in the future," Millward said on the topic of Leilua.

"Everything he's showing us at training indicates that."
