Warriors fans are used to seeing coaches come and go, but the club are currently in negotiations with current coach Stephen Kearney to extend his tenure at the club.

Kearney is New Zealand's fifth coach since Ivan Cleary left the club at the end of the 2011 season, but finally it looks as though some consistency in the coaching chair is near.

Warriors CEO Cameron George wouldn't go into detail about the club's discussions with Kearney, although he did speak to NZ Herald about the relationship the pair share.

"Stephen and I trust each other," George told nzherald.co.nz.

"We have a very close personal and working relationship [and] because of that him and I know where we are going.

"We both have [the] same desire to be here; I want him here and he wants to be here. The last thing he needs is to be anywhere near that merry-go-round [in Australia].

"The board have endorsed my view on Stephen [and] stability is crucial for us, for long term success and that is what everyone is after."

The Herald understand a new contract for Kearney could be a long as a four-year deal, with Kearney suggesting recently he wouldn't have taking the initial deal to join the Warriors if he wasn't fully committed to the club.

"I wasn't going to spend two years apart from my family if I wasn't committed to this footy club," Kearney said.

"I'm dead set committed to making sure we get the club to a situation where it is reaching its potential and finding its capability all the time. I'm confident we can make that happen."
