Cameron Smith has ruled out a return to State of Origin.

Although declaring he'll go round again in the NRL with Melbourne in season 2020, Smith has no intention in donning the Maroon jersey.

Queensland coach Kevin Walters has tried to enlist the 35-year-old's help to prevent back-to-back losses to the boys in Blue for the first time since 2005.

"Whether I speak to him face to face or via text, he (Walters) always chucks in a little sneaky question at the end: 'Are you free to play Origin this year?' Smith told Fox Sports' NRL 360 on Wednesday night.

Smith has started in 15 Origin matches and believes its time for the younger generation to come through and stand up.

This story does have a similar setting to that of the Allan Langer saga in 2001, where he came out of retirement to help Queensland over the line against New South Wales.

However, Smith does not seem like he can be persuaded and is content with playing under Coach Bellamy for the Storm in 2020.

"I'm still enjoying turning up to training each day and training with the all the boys and listening to all of Craig's old messages and all that stuff I've been listening to now for 17 or 18 years," Smith said.

"It's always easy to say that you want to play on when things are going great at the moment and you've had three wins from three games, but physically and mentally I'm feeling as good as I've ever felt."

  1. Why would he return? QLD are on a hiding to nothing in the next 5 years at least. Their Golden period is OVER.

  2. Good , don’t let the door hit ya on ya way out, ( and I’m a Qlder) this bloke is the most unsportsmanlike individual I’ve ever seen in any sport ,
