Inspirational leader Cameron McInnes will leave the Cronulla Sharks at the end of the season following months of speculation of his departure from the Shire.
McInnes, revealed by the Daily Telegraph, has agreed to terms with the York City Knights in the Super League for 2027.
Despite fielding interest from the Perth Bears, McInnes will take his talents to England following a valiant NRL career that has been plagued by injuries.
Knights head coach Mark Applegarth spoke to the media last week about bringing McInnes to the English club.
“Cam is a quality player and I think anyone that has followed rugby league for the last few years would know that,'' Applegarth said.
“Is he a player that I'd be interested in? 100 per cent he is, not only for what he can do on the field but I think culturally with the standards that a player like that sets for himself.''
McInnes returned from an ACL this year in record time after suffering the injury in the back end of last year.
The Sharks' succession plan lies in Jesse Colquhoun, who replaced McInnes when he was struck with injury and recently signed a four-year extension with the club in January.
McInnes, who boasts NSW Blues representative honours, will use his exceptional leadership skills to hopefully help the Knights claim a title in the English Super League.

It’s great place: railway museum, cathedral, walls round the city that can be walked, etc. Even if he doesn’t enjoy the game that much, he’ll enjoy living there.
