The Brisbane Broncos will be without star halfback Ben Hunt for the next eight weeks after he ruled with a hamstring injury, giving them an early look at what next season might be like when he departs for St George Illawarra.

The Broncos had been hoping he would only be sidelined a few a few weeks but unfortunately, it was a worst case scenario with scans confirming Hunt would be sidelined for six to eight weeks.

With Benji Marshall currently sidelined with a broken wrist, the Broncos will turn to young gun Kodi Nikorima to fill the halves position in what could be a rehearsal for next season.

Nikorima is one of the current options open to Wayne Bennett to fill the halves position long-term once Hunt leaves the club at the end of the season.

The Broncos have also recently been rumoured to have made a big play for Cronulla Sharks star Jack Bird.
