Scans this morning have confirmed Benji Marshall has fractured his wrist and faces a stint on the sidelines.

The fracture is in the radius, one of the two large bones of the forearm, which extends from the lateral side of the elbow to the thumb side of the wrist.

There was at least some positive news with it unlikely Marshall will need surgery to fix any displacement in the fracture.

“It is really unlucky for it to happen like this but that is football,” he said.

“All I can do now is concentrate on it getting better and keep training for a return as soon as I am able.”

Benji Marshall's hopes of an NRL return have taken a massive hit after the star Kiwi suffered a wrist injury while playing for Broncos' feeder club Redcliffe on the weekend.

Marshall had been excelling in the game, scoring a try and setting up three others before he was smashed by Ipswich hitman Billy McConnachie.

The tackle was late and Marshall was forced from the field clutching at his right arm.

"It feels sore. It's either strained or fractured," Marshall told the Courier Mail.

"For a guy [McConnachie] who is so aggressive, I have never seen anyone more apologetic. But it's footy and you have to expect that. I wanted them to chase me but I just didn't know he was coming that hard."

Marshall was set to have scans on Sunday night, with results to be known on Monday.
