Brisbane Broncos dummy half Blake Mozer's time at the club appears to be drawing to a close after he was granted permission to talk with rival clubs.

Mozer has fallen well down the pecking order at the Broncos.

Once compared to Cameron Smith as he tracked through the grades at the Broncos, Mozer has struggled with injury issues and a swollen dummy half list at the Broncos.

With the club electing to retain both Cory Paix and Blake Mozer for 2027, and Ben Hunt also on the books, Mozer and another youngster in Cameron Bukowski mean the Broncos have five dummy halves as part of their Top 30.

That is not a great fit for the club, or Mozer's career, which has stagnated at the club in recent seasons.

News Corp are now reporting the Broncos have handed Mozer, contracted through to the end of 2027, permission to negotiate with rivals for a potential immediate move away.

That could ultimately see him join a new club for the 2027 campaign, and with a shortage of quality dummy halves around the competition, clubs may well be prepared to take what would effectively be a cheap risk despite his injury history.

Mozer has played 16 games for the Broncos in the top grade, otherwise spending plenty of time honing his craft in the NSW Cup.

The rake's looming departure will also free up a spot that needs to be replaced at the Broncos, who have limited cash available, but still need re-enforcements for their squad.

Brisbane have signed Mitch Barnett and Dane Gagai for 2027, raising eyebrows over the age of the duo, but recent acquisitions of youngsters Richard Penisini and Wilson De Courcey have twisted the narrative back in the other direction.

It's unclear at this stage if any clubs have already commenced talks with Mozer, however, it's clear plenty could use an extra dummy half option heading into 2027.
