Tyrell Sloan, who signed a deal to head to the Super League in 2027, could potentially have an NRL lifeline with the Parramatta Eels.

The Dragons winger signed a multi-year deal to join the Castleford Tigers and head to the UK with NRL teammates Damien Cook and Mat Feagai.

The difference for Sloan signing with the Tigers was the head coach at the time, Ryan Carr, a former Dragons assistant and interim head coach.

However, Carr left the club during the season for "personal reasons."

In August, Sloan said on Channel Nine after a game that he wants to stay in the NRL despite agreeing to join Castleford.

For Parramatta, Josh Addo-Carr tested positive for the use of cocaine in September. He has since been to rehab as he waits for the second test's results.

If the B sample is positive, the NRL will hand him a 12-match suspension, ruling him out for three months if he is at the Eels or another club.

The Eels have identified the Super League-bound player as Addo-Carr's replacement, according to Paul Kent.

"Tyrell Sloan, who was, for all intents we thought going to England, might get a lifeline at the Eels," the journalist said on The Paul Kent Podcast.

Addo-Carr is reportedly on $400,000 in 2027 and is in the final year of the extension he signed with Parramatta after a solid outing in 2025.

This is the second time he has tested positive for drug use, after testing positive for cocaine in 2024 when he was at the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs before he was meant to play against the Manly Sea Eagles in week 1 of the finals.

Kent is confident that Addo-Carr will not be handed another chance after being randomly drug-tested and testing positive for the second time in two years.

"Parramatta don't have to pay him for those 12 games under the NRL contracts, but what they do have to do is carry that on their cap,” Kent explained.

"So, from a player point of view, you're not getting what Addo-Carr brought to your team, but you're getting a pretty good facsimile. You're also getting it for much less. Addo-Carr is on around $450,000 to $500,000 at Parramatta.

"You'll get Sloan for essentially minimum wage. You'll get him for all the games, not half of them."

Sloan struggled with his form at the Dragons, but in the second half of the 2026 season, he found confidence and performed well, including hitting a two-point field goal to help the Dragons defeat the Eels in the final round of the season.

The St George Illawarra Dragons were trying to offload Josh Kerr's contract to keep Sloan.

Given the Dragons' salary cap, keeping Sloan is unlikely now.

The Super League club previously addressed the rumours that he wanted to stay in the NRL, indicating he would still make the move.

Castleford start their pre-season training next month.
