Brisbane Broncos Anthony Milford has rocketed home to take out his first Paul Morgan Medal for Broncos' Player of the Year. Milford wasn't sighted on the leader board as the early counts were revealed, not even appearing in the top five players with six rounds to go. But his amazing run of form late in the year, in which he polled votes in seven of the last 10 matches, have allowed him to sneak home by one vote. After taking out the Dally M Hooker of the Year and the Provan-Summons People's Choice Award at the Dally M Awards, Cook has now been crowned South Sydney's best and fairest player of 2018. It marks Cook's third award of the night, as he was also the recipient of The Burrow Appreciation Award (NRL) and the Roy Asotasi Members' Choice Award, also becoming the second hooker to take out the award after Issac Luke in 2010. The 24-year-old received the prestigious award on Wednesday night at a sold-out event at Peninsula Docklands. Munster claimed the Player of the Year award after receiving a total of 32 votes edging out teammates Dale Finucane (27 votes) and Cameron Smith (22 votes). The award is recognition of Yeo's immense contribution to the success of the Panthers in 2018. Known for his commitment and consistency, Yeo averaged 31 tackles and 112 running metres per game this season. James received the award from founding Chairman, Paul Broughton, taking out the award for the second time, after first receiving the medal back in 2016. The Bilambil junior polled 23 votes, just one point ahead of lock forward, Jai Arrow, who raced to 22 points after 17 rounds but was unable to secure any votes during the run home. Tuivasa-Sheck is just the fourth player to win the supreme accolade more than once following five-times winner Simon Mannering and Steve Price and Ben Matulino, who were two-time winners. The other nominees for the Vodafone Player of the Year title were Agnatius Paasi, Issac Luke, Jazz Tevaga and Ken Maumalo. The Ken Thornett Medal night was held at Rosehill Racecourse and recognises players from the NRL, Jersey Flegg and Intrust Super Premiership NSW Cup sides to mark the 2018 season. A special presentation was made to Nathan Hindmarsh who was inducted into the Parramatta Eels Hall of Fame. Hindmarsh, a NSW and Australian representative, played his entire career at the Eels, and in 2010 broke the record for most games played at the club. Eels winger George Jennings claimed the Jack Gibson NRL Coaches’ award for best back in his Parramatta Eels debut season, while Peni Terepo was awarded the Jack Gibson NRL Coaches’ award for best forward.
