South Sydney winger Richie Kennar will serve a two-year Mormon mission starting in 2019, after the Rabbitohs released the 23-year-old from the final year of his contract.

Kennar - who joined the Rabbitohs for the 2018 season after stints with the Storm and Bulldogs - will finish off the season, before following his faith.

Rabbitohs coach Anthony Seibold has known Kennar for the past five years, and was more than happy to help the winger follow his faith.

"I've known Richie since he was 18 and he is a great person on and off the field," Seibold told rabbitohs.com.au.

"We all wish him and his family the very best for the future and we look forward to finishing this season off with him here at South Sydney."

Kennar played nine games for Melbourne between 2015-16, before moving to Canterbury for the 2017 season.

He didn't feature in first grade for the Bulldogs during his lone season at the club, and has since made an impact at the Bunnies, scoring five tries from his six appearances.
