The Sharks are one of four teams stranded on 26 points and currently sit in fifth position and in the middle of the logjam.

They have a chance this weekend to break away from their fellow competitors, as they host South Sydney on Friday night.

James Maloney is back for the reigning premiers and Andrew Fifita and Luke Lewis will start in the forward pack with Jayson Bukuya and Sam Tagataese moving back to the bench.

The Rabbitohs have welcomed back Aaron Gray from injury in place of Braidon Burns, in what is otherwise an unchanged starting line-up.

The two sides will meet for the first time since round 24 last season when the Rabbitohs beat the Sharks by six points.

Cronulla will be out for revenge, and they should be able to get the chocolates this time around.

Sharks by 8.

  1. From what i saw tonight Cronulla can’t win the comp, they are very ordinary compared to last year, lucky to make the top 4

    • Big call Penso. Origin has been disruptive to the sharks and yet they’re still a serious top 4 contender. They weren’t travelling that well through the last few rounds in 2016 including a very ordinary loss to the dragons yet clicked into gear when it mattered. Staying healthy and eliminating a few attacking errors will be the key. The signs are there such as belting the roosters a couple of weeks back. As Wade Graham noted post match, you don’t want to be playing your best footy now. The comp isn’t won in July mate but it can certainly be gone. Ask Bulldogs and Rabbits fans and I’d say there a quite a few nervous Raider fans out there as well.
