According to UK site Total Rugby League, Warriors hooker Karl Lawton is awaiting a move to the Super League after a difficult start to life in New Zealand.

Lawton has only managed 10 matches with the Warriors since departing Gold Coast at the end of season 2017. In his second season, Lawton has found himself on the interchange several times already and it has become a wake-up call for him.

Despite some consistent efforts when on field, Lawton remains behind Issac Luke and Nate Roache as the selected No. 9 for the Warriors, while Jazz Tevaga has sewn up the dummy half position.

For the past month, the 23-year-old has garnered interest from several Super League clubs, to the point where he was looked at as a mid-season signing. Unfortunately, it didn't progress any further and he will have to wait until season's end until a deal is done.

Roache, who is currently out with a back injury has missed several games this season, after he missed the entire 2018 season. Continual injuries to Roache may allow Lawton the opportunity to return to the starting lineup.

A second Warriors player is expected to take his talents north for next season, with forward Ligi Sao out of contract at years end.

Super League side Hull FC are favourites to secure the Samoan prop, who is suspended for the upcoming match against Melbourne Storm.

  1. Karl in an awesome hooker, who has provided a much needed spark off our bench every time he plays. Itโ€™d be a shame to see him. Personally i donโ€™t see Issac Luke playing for much longer and I do kinda like Roache but heโ€™s very inconsistent. If Luke was to leave or retire at the end of the year and Lawton wasnโ€™t there we would only have Roache and a makeshift Teveaga. Roache isnโ€™t a 80 minute player and he gets injured easily so it would be dumb to not keep Lawton.
